Our pretty little church on its peaceful hillside. The Franklin County Historical Society Museum stands next door. The two rows of ancient cedars are where the old-timers tied their horses, wagons and buggies. The pavilion behind is the home of our ice cream socials and other activities. In 1875 the log church was replaced with this impressive brick building. At a cost of $3000 some complained that it was too expensive but it stands as proud and solid today as it did 125 years ago even with its original roof. These Christmas pictures appeared last year in Country Extra Magazine when Mantels was the featured country church. The old cemetery contains monuments to our founders as well as the two large areas with no stones. Those areas contain the mass graves of cholera victims from the Great Epidemic which began in 1849. The Pioneer Tree now stands in their memory.
