
ROLLA AREA COMPUTER USERS GROUP (RACUG)
Minutes of Meeting, Wednesday, September 5, 2007
The Rolla Area Computer Users Group met in Room 122 of RTI on Wednesday, September 2, 2007 with twenty members present.
The meeting was called to order at 6 p.m. by the president, Dottie Bagnall.
The minutes of the last meeting were read by the secretary and approved as read.
Treasurer Mary Ellen Marshall reported that there is $1,051.13 in the treasury, the same as last month. Her report was approved as read.
OLD BUSINESS:
The treasurer confirmed that the $300 scholarship check had been given to the Vocational Technical School. We do not know the recipient's name yet.
NEW BUSINESS:
A motion was made by Gwen Cox that we have a club picnic on Saturday, October 20 at the home of Ron and Mary Ellen Marshall. Phyllis Thomas seconded the motion, and the motion passed. The club will furnish meat, bread, paper plates and utensils. Members should bring a covered dish and outdoor games. The hostess said that we could arrive any time after 10 a.m. and we will eat at 1:00 p.m.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Paul Goddard announced that the West End Center in St. Louis, a community education center that does remedial education, was broken into and had their computers stolen. They have been given some computers, but they need software. They will accept anything Pentium 3 or newer.
Paul also mentioned that we should avoid a program called Power Suite by Spot Man. It has destroyed a hard drive.
Bob Doerr warned that Microsoft no longer supports ME and he had to buy a new computer. Make sure you update before your warranty ends.
Max contributed the tip that if you get tech support from someone who does not speak understandable English, you can ask to be transferred back to the U.S. (Nashville).
Volunteers are welcomed to help Gwen Cox, Dottie Bagnall, and Bill Bales with their computer classes held at 10 a.m. every Thursday starting next week. People can learn what they need to learn and want to learn.
We have a lot of members who volunteer their computer expertise throughout the community. Marvin O'Brien takes his talents to the Veteran's Home, Harold Estell volunteers at Rolla Apartment's computer room, and Sheila Wood teaches how to do genealogy research at the Phelps County courthouse.
The business meeting was adjourned at 7:20 p.m.
PROGRAM:
Mary Ellen Marshall demonstrated loading XP Professional onto the new computer that was built at a previous meeting.

The Rolla Area Computer Users Group met in Room 137 of RTI on Wednesday, May 2, 2007.
The business meeting was called to order at 6:52 p.m. with the new officers presiding.
Dottye Bagnall, president, and Gwen Cox, vice president, presided over the meeting.
The treasurer reported deposits of $210 this month leaving a total of $1,343.14 in the treasury
Marvin O'Brien reported that 19 members were present.
Under Old Business it was announced that the Scholarship check is due now to Rolla Area
Technical Institute. We will donate $300 fo the scholarship
Mary Ellen Marshall reported that the parts have been ordered to build the new computer, but
they have not arrived yet. We will have the "How to Build a Computer" demonstration next month.
A letter from a former member who has moved away, Fritz Corbin, was read by Marvin O'Brien.
By way of announcements, Sheila Wood announced that on June 2, there will be a celebration
of Phelps County's 150th year. There will be a parade at 11 a.m. followed by activities at the
Old Court House and elsewhere. She showed a coverlet which she designed that will be for sale
then. It includes photos of important buildings in Phelps County as well as the names of
townships, etc. November 13, 1857 is the actual "date of birth" of Phelps County.
The business meeting was adjourned.
A program about the various parts of a computer and how they work was given by Mary Ellen
Marshall.
