Keep weight down; bring as little as possible but be sure to bring essentials. Total Pack weight SHOULD not exceed 25% of body weight. All clothes, sleeping gear, and food SHOULD BE stored in waterproof bags (ZIPLOCK FREEZER BAGS work great).

BASIC GEAR
__Backpack with padded hip belt
__Pack cover (packs stay outside tent; heavy garbage bag OK)
__Sleeping bag/blankets in waterproof (garbage) bag
__Sleeping pad (optional)
__Hiking Boots
__Water bottles/canteen - 2 qts. minimum (more depending on temperature, trail, and local water conditions)
__Extra plastic bags for trash, dirty clothes, etc.
